Job Purpose
While this is a Senior Web Developer role, we are not looking for a backend software engineer to build custom apps from scratch. You will serve as the Front-End Technical Lead and "Gatekeeper" for our existing Web Development Pod. Your primary mission is to take ownership of advanced front-end formatting, Core Web Vitals (site speed) optimization, and GTM tracking across diverse CMS platforms (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace). You will act as the technical bridge between our SEO Content team and junior developers, enforcing strict Quality Assurance (QA) standards, troubleshooting complex UI/UX layouts, and actively mentoring your team to elevate their technical output.
Scope of Duties and Responsibilities
The Employee is expected to perform the following primary duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Core Responsibilities
As a Senior Web Developer, your primary focus is to ensure the flawless execution, technical performance, and tracking integrity of client websites across various CMS platforms.
Performance Optimization: Driving front-end performance improvements by applying best-practice optimizations to existing client pages, maximizing speed and efficiency as much as the current client infrastructure allows.
Tracking & Analytics: Architecting and maintaining advanced Google Tag Manager and GA4 tracking infrastructure.
Workflow Gatekeeping: Standardizing QA workflows and vetting incoming content to protect Junior Developers from layout mismatches and production bottlenecks.
Mentorship: Actively upskilling the junior development team on front-end best practices and technical SEO implementation.
Role-Specific Tasks
Audit and optimize Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) where possible. While we do not redesign sites or change hosting, you will be expected to apply front-end solutions (e.g., adjusting caching setups, deferring scripts) to improve performance within the boundaries of the client's current architecture.
Configure Google Tag Manager (GTM) to track custom, dynamic front-end events (e.g., button clicks without unique CSS IDs) using custom JavaScript variables.
Implement and troubleshoot raw JSON-LD Local Business Schema directly into the page header without relying on plugins.
Review and vet SEO Content briefs prior to developer implementation to solve UI/UX layout mismatches before they cause rework.
Conduct final cross-browser and mobile responsiveness QA on pages built by the Junior Developers across WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace.
Performance Standards
The Employee’s performance shall be assessed based on, but not limited to, the following:
Performance Improvement Standards: Consistently implementing best-practice front-end optimizations on deployed pages to maximize speed, recognizing that final scores are subject to the constraints of the client's existing hosting and theme framework.
SLA Adherence: Pod turnaround times meeting or exceeding established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) due to streamlined workflows.
Data Integrity: Zero tracking or GTM event-firing errors on live client sites.
QA Pass Rate: A measurable reduction in rework, formatting errors, and layout glitches after pages are published by the junior team.
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Educational background:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field; OR equivalent progressive Web Development Experience.
Professional experience:
3-5 years of professional web development experience. Experience working in an SEO setup, digital marketing agency, or KPO environment is a strong plus.
Technical skills:
1. Minimum Hiring Requirements (These are the non-negotiable baseline skills a candidate must possess on day one to be considered for the position.)
Project Management & Workflow Navigation: Strong hands-on experience using Asana (our primary task-management system) to manage development workflows, track SLAs, and coordinate daily production, alongside basic familiarity with other ticketing or CRM platforms.
Collaboration & Communication Suites: High proficiency in modern remote-work ecosystems, including Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Slides), Slack/Microsoft Teams, and video conferencing tools.
Basic Data Literacy: The ability to accurately read, interpret, and explain pre-built data dashboards and QA scorecards to subordinate leaders.
2. Standard Management Skills to Lead the Jr. Web Dev (These are additional operational frameworks and technical proficiencies the candidate is expected to utilize, master, and implement on the job to drive departmental success.)
Workflow Standardization: Experience mapping processes and managing high-volume production capacity (managing SLAs across 50+ sites).
Technical QA: The ability to conduct code and layout reviews, providing constructive, actionable feedback to junior developers.
Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage batch-processing and mitigate the "context switching" tax between different CMS platforms.
Competencies
Developing Future Tech Leaders: A profound commitment to mentorship; the proven ability to transition Junior Web Developers from tactical implementers into strategic, quality-driven web professionals.
Technical QA & Accountability: Flawless ability to audit front-end output and synthesize complex technical data into actionable workflows, taking absolute ownership of your pod's site speed, tracking integrity, and SLA success.
Advanced Data-Driven Strategy: The capacity to analyze technical SEO datasets (Core Web Vitals, crawl errors), identify invisible systemic bottlenecks, and design large-scale workflow overhauls that permanently solve recurring UI/UX issues.
Cross-Functional Synergy: High emotional intelligence and professional maturity to collaborate seamlessly with the SEO Content team and Operations Manager, prioritizing the overall success of the BrightLocal pipeline over departmental silos.
Operational Agility & Resilience: The composure required to steer the web development pod through high-volume content spikes, sudden platform updates, or critical site-down scenarios without losing operational stability.
